KBSI FOX 23 is a Fox-affiliated television station licensed to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, United States, serving Southeastern Missouri, the Purchase area of Western Kentucky, and Southern Illinois. The station is owned by the Community News Media and operated by Standard Media Group, as part of a duopoly with Paducah, Kentucky-licensed MyNetworkTV affiliate WDKA (Channel 49). The two stations share studios on Enterprise Street in Cape Girardeau; KBSI’s transmitter is located in unincorporated Cape Girardeau County just north of the city.

The Southern Illinoisan is a daily newspaper that is published seven days a week. The print edition of The Southern is delivered to subscribers Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. A digital edition of the paper is published Monday through Sunday and delivered to subscribers’ in-box or via a link on the website (TheSouthern.com) or app (available in your app store).

The Southern Illinoisan began in Carbondale, Illinois in 1947 when the Lindsay-Schaub Newspapers of Decatur, Illinois bought three area newspaper—The Daily Free Press of Carbondale, The Murphysboro Daily Independent and the Herrin Daily Journal—and merged them into a single publication. Lee Enterprises bought the paper in 1979 and held it until Paxton Media Group purchased The Southern in December 2023.

Paxton Media Group is a privately held, family-owned business that began with the Paducah Sun newspaper, in Paducah, Kentucky in 1896.

Paxton Media Group LLC (PMG) traces its roots to 1896 when a group of investors headed by W. P. Paxton launched The Paducah Sun, a newspaper in Paducah, Kentucky. Edwin J. Paxton, son of W. F. Paxton, became editor and publisher of the newspaper in 1900 and held both positions until his death in 1961.

Today, PMG is a diversified media company with interests in newspapers, printing, and broadcasting and is still owned and managed by third and fourth generation members of the Paxton family. PMG owns 32 daily newspapers and numerous weekly newspapers across the mid-western and southeastern United States. In addition, PMG operates WPSD Local 6, a NBC affiliate television station in Paducah and a specialty publishing division. PMG is based in Paducah.
