Carbondale, IL – August 30, 2024 – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois (BGCSI) is delighted to announce the appointment of LaShonda Hubert as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Hubert was selected following an extensive nationwide search led by Cordy Love, Vice Chair of the BGCSI Board of Directors. "LaShonda's on-site interview allowed the board and community members to witness her dedication firsthand and hear her inspiring vision for BGCSI," said Love. "She is the ideal leader to guide us through the critical task of reopening our Clubs and resuming vital programming for the youth in our communities."

Currently serving as Area Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis, Hubert oversees all Clubs within the St. Louis City region. She is responsible for managing the budget and ensuring the successful implementation of programs focused on academics, character development, and healthy lifestyles for members.

Prior to joining the?Boys & Girls Club movement full-time, Hubert spearheaded a thriving youth development program through Teen REACH funding at the Lessie Bates Davis Neighborhood House in East St. Louis, Illinois. Under her leadership, the program expanded from two to five service locations over five years. Additionally, Hubert has owned and operated a successful youth development consulting firm, empowering other non-profits to achieve positive outcomes for young people.

An East St. Louis native, Hubert brings over 15 years of expertise in Education, Restorative Counseling, and Non-Profit Youth Development leadership to BGCSI. She holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education degree and is a Doctoral candidate in Higher Education Administration, preparing to defend her dissertation in December 2024. Hubert is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated and a distinguished recipient of the 2018 East St. Louis Nu-Chi Omega Psi Citizen of the Year award for her work with youth.  

LaShonda Hubert states that "This is a Great Day for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Illinois. This is a Great Day for the Community...We will continue to do whatever it takes to build Great Futures."

Hubert will transition to Southern Illinois before the end of the month. Her immediate focus will be on reopening the Clubs (Carbondale & Marion), which includes recruiting, hiring, and training qualified staff.
