The "Veterans on Parade" will be celebrating its 20th Anniversay on Saturday, Sept 7th at 10a. This parade is open to all men and women veterans, active-duty personnel, first responders (police, fire, EMS) and all medical personnel, who serve the entire Southern Illinois region.
The "Gold Star Mothers" and their families, as always are honored as the grand marshals of the parade. Their "Fallen Heroes" will be recognized and honored with a special memorial ceremony immediately following the end of the parade on Tower Square Plaza, adjacent to the MArion Cultural & Civic Center.
The "Blue Star Mothers (Parents)," spouses and family members, of a deployed service individual are encouraged to be a part of this year's event alongside those, who wish to showcase a loved one (who has passed on), as part of the "picture brigade".
There are two staging areas for the parade. Those wishing to march/walk the parade route, should assemble no later than 9:15 am at the Maion Junior High School on West Main Street. Those parade participants wanting to drive the parade route with their own vehicles should assemble no later than 9:15 am at the Marion High School on South Carbon Street. Those particpants
being staged at the high school will leave there at apporximately 9:30 to 9:40 am to be inserted into the lineup at the junior high.
