On October 8, 2024, the Marion Chamber of Commerce held its monthly luncheon at Deaconess Illinois, bringing together community members and local business leaders for a productive afternoon of networking, insightful discussions, and important announcements.

The event commenced at noon with a warm welcome from Board Chair Deborah Hogg, who led attendees in the Pledge of Allegiance. Following this, John Holst from Zion United Church of Christ delivered a thoughtful invocation, setting a positive tone for the gathering.

Patricia Nardini introduced the luncheon sponsor, Specialized Equine Services, underscoring their commitment to community engagement and support. She talked about the benefits of horse-led therapy, success stories, their new indoor facility, and their veterans related programming.

This was followed by a dynamic presentation led by Chamber 2nd Vice Chair, Matt Carnaghi, who introduced the guest speakers: Terance Henry, IT Director for the City of Marion; Terry Harger, Cyber Navigator from the Illinois Department of Innovation & Technology; and Tim Force, Technology Consultant at Complete Technology Solutions. The panel discussion focused on the latest advancements in technology and cybersecurity, moderated by Carnaghi, who encouraged audience participation through questions.

After an engaging session, Deborah Hogg returned to the stage to share several important announcements. She highlighted that nominations for the Marion Chamber Board are currently open, with the deadline for submissions set for October 15. Members were encouraged to log into the member portal to ensure their eligibility for voting in the upcoming elections.

Hogg also announced the Annual Banquet scheduled for January 17, 2025, promising new entertainment and activities. She invited members to celebrate Chamber Appreciation Day at the Fall Regional Luncheon on October 16, where several local experts will discuss topics ranging from new laws to AI’s impact on business.

The Member Impact Group Report followed, with Carnaghi urging members to get involved in upcoming events. He announced a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Bits & Pieces on October 10, and a Business After Hours event at Marion High School on October 11, where attendees could engage with various school departments.

Toni Perkins, co-chair of the Business Advocacy Task Force, shared details about several upcoming events, including a Legislative Breakfast on October 28 featuring Senator Dale Fowler. She also highlighted the “Bite of Reality” program set for November 25, aimed at teaching teens financial decision-making skills.

The floor was then opened for member announcements, where attendees reflected on the recent passing of community members Fred Huff and Cierra Johnson, honoring their contributions to the Marion community.

The meeting wrapped up with the much-anticipated “Luck of the Draw” raffle, where attendees had the chance to win prizes, including a weekend on the lake from Heartland Realty and Rentals. John Holst’s ticket was drawn, but unfortunately, he pulled the yellow ball and missed the cash prize, but will enjoy the weekend prize package. The event concluded with a door prize drawing for tickets to the upcoming Oakridge Boys concert, donated by Walker’s Bluff Casino, and a raffle for a basket by Specialized Equine Services.

Deborah Hogg closed the meeting by expressing gratitude to the speakers, sponsor, and host for their contributions, and invited everyone to the next luncheon scheduled for November 12 at Kokopelli, promising another opportunity for networking and community engagement.
