Session Title: Egoless Leadership: Shifting from Me to We

True leadership has nothing to do with ego or personal glory. It's about empowering those around you for maximum collective impact. This session explores egoless leadership - putting the needs of the team and organization first while balancing your needs. You'll learn to move from "me" to "we" by cultivating self-awareness, vulnerability, and humility. Discover how to create psychological safety, distribute decision-making, and inspire others to reach their full potential. Shift your mindset from being a singular leader to an enabler of leadership in others. Master egoless leadership to foster highly engaged, empowered teams laser-focused on a shared mission. It's time to step back and let your people soar.

Jessie DaSilva
Session Title: What Millennials & Gen Z Want: Recruit & Retain the Generations

Millennials and Gen Z have gotten bad raps for job hopping, but here’s the secret: They hate it! In this signature talk, Jessie explains how companies can better retain Millennial and Gen Z employees by understanding the myths about the generations, major life events they've experienced, and how to integrate them into a work culture that wasn’t built by them. By examining the trends around what these
workers are looking for when deciding on a place to work, organizations can keep all their best employees on a budget. Instead of wasting thousands of dollars in recruitment and training, you’ll create a place where everyone wants to work and your employees can collaborate together better than ever.

Bite of Reality Fall 2024 - Volunteer Portal

Bite of Reality is a hands-on app based simulation that appeals to teens while giving them a taste of real-world financial realities. Teens are given a fictional occupation, salary, credit score, spouse and a child, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. The teens then walk around to various table-top stations to “purchase” housing, transportation, food, clothing, and other needs.

Fortunately, the game also includes a “credit union” to help with their financial needs.? This interactive activity will teach teens how to make financial decisions and give them a better understanding of the challenges of living on a budget. Teens will have to deal with a pushy “car salesperson” and a commission-based “realtor,” and weigh their wants versus their needs. There’s even a “Fickle Finger of Fate” that will give the students unexpected “expenses” or “windfalls”—just like in real life.

We are excited to partner with SIU Credit Union and the Marion High School to bring this event in-person to MHS students this fall. The event will take place during the PE period, so you'll be interacting with various age groups and backgrounds. Morning and Afternoon shifts are available with 4+ people working per shift at each expense/information station. Cost information will be provided to you and we would like various Chamber members per industry available. This is a great event to have one-on-one interaction with students and get to know the consumers of tomorrow!

We need volunters to help staff Expense / Information Stations:

  • Housing
  • Transportation
  • Food
  • Child Care
  • Entertainment – activities, vacations
  • Household Needs – furnishings
  • Clothing / Personal Care
  • Shopping – phone, TV, charitable donations
  • Credit Union / Bank

Our goal is to have at least 4 people working per station / per shift. Lunch will be provided.

  • Morning Shift (8 am - 11 am)
  • Afternoon (11 am - 3 pm)

Floater shifts are also available for trouble shooting and helping students go to all the stations in the time allowed. Need more info? Call the Chamber office at 618-997-6311

4Q 2024 Sexual Harassment Training

To better meet state mandates surrounding sexual harassment training and build stronger workplace environments, we are hosting quarterly training for 2024.

Attendees will take part in a general hour-long training session and receive a certificate of completion for their employee file. Employees in the restaurant industry can take advantage of additional training and certification.

Timeline

  • 8 AM: Check in and networking
  • 8:30: General training begins
  • 9:30: Additional trainings for restaurants
  • 10 ish: Training concludes
Cost: $10 for members, and $15 for non members. Workshop sponsors get complimentary training registrations for any of the 4 training sessions.

Sexual Training is Mandatory? Yes, it is.
Formerly Senate Bill 75, Public Act 101-0221 was signed into law by Governor Pritzker in August 2019. Under this Act, Illinois employers are required to train employees on sexual harassment prevention by December 31, 2020, and on an annual basis thereafter. This requirement applies to all employers with employees working in this State. Employers must either develop their own sexual harassment prevention training program that equals or exceeds the minimum standards for sexual harassment prevention training outlined in Section 2-109(B) of the Illinois Human Rights Act (IHRA), or they may use the model training provided by the IDHR.
In addition to providing the sexual harassment prevention training described above, restaurants and bars are required to provide supplemental sexual harassment prevention training that complies with Section 2-110 of the IHRA. Illinois restaurants and bars must either develop their own supplemental training or utilize the model training provided by the IDHR. The IDHR's supplemental training model for restaurants and bars is forthcoming.
