The Comptroller is charged, by the terms of Section 17 of Article V of the Constitution of Illinois, with the duties of: (a) maintaining the central fiscal accounts of the state, and (b) ordering payments into and out of the funds held by the Treasurer of Illinois. The office’s functions are described in the Illinois Constitution, mainly addressing the Secretary of State's duty to maintain official state records and the state seal. The Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Southern Illinois University provides no-cost, confidential, one-on-one business advising services, training opportunities, and business resources for small businesses in southern Illinois.

117th District State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) was first elected to serve as Illinois’ 118th district State Representative in 2018. Due to redistricting, Rep. Windhorst is now the 117th district State Representative, representing all or parts of Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Johnson, Massac, Pope, Saline, Williamson, and White Counties.
